The Baggy Brown is an Australian icon.

Along with The Sydney Harbour Bridge, Ayers Rock, CUB Beer, Boonie, Ned Kelly, Kylie, Elle and Vegemite, the Baggy Brown is more than just a thing, it's entrenched into the Australian way of life as a shining beacon to all that is good and right........and sometimes not so right

Steve Waugh mentions in one of his books that the Baggy Green Cap that the Australian Test Cricket Team wear and hold in such high regard is merely a copy of the incomparable Baggy Brown Cap from the Hawks Cricket Club.

Throughout history, the Baggy Brown has appeared in many places, in magical moments in World History, Famous Sporting Events, in Hollywood and even in some infamous and less desirable circumstances.  Below you will find pictorial evidence of the many strange and wonderful places the Baggy Brown has cropped up.  Just click on the Thumbnail for a bigger image that will open in a new window.

If you have heard of a 'Baggy Brown' sighting, contact us here with the details and we can try to find proof and put the picture up here.

Special thanks to Steve 'Rinsey' Raymond who submitted the ideas for the following 3 new pictures of the Baggy Brown through history!

rogerbannister.jpg (35396 bytes) Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile barrier on May 6, 1954.  Time magazine ran a story on him and as you can clearly see by the picture and the headline, Roger was using the hat to aerodynamically propel himself through the wind barrier.  Bannister wont admit it because he's a Pommy Bastard but there is scientific proof that the only reason he ran the 4 minute mile was the help he got by wearing a Baggy Brown!

a11crew.jpg (76286 bytes) Pictured here from left to right are Commander Neil A. Armstrong, Command Module pilot Michael Collins, Lunar Module pilot Edwin E. Aldrin.  Collins refused to wear the Baggy Brown making the decision as to which astronaut missed out on the first Moon Walk an easy one for NASA scientists.  Some say that had Collins stepped out that door and onto the Lunar surface, Armstrong and Aldrin were going to lock him out as they were appalled at his contempt for the Baggy Brown

john_holmes_pics008.jpg (66746 bytes) Who will ever forget that leapfrog into the 70's Porn stardom a young and unknown John Holmes got when he starred in the low budget smash hit big 'What's behind the Baggy Brown?'  Let me give you a tip......it aint baggy!!

Carte_Diamond.jpg (15710 bytes) Irish import Melbourne Cup hope Carte diamond went crashing out of the 2005 Melbourne cup with a spectacular fall during track work.  Click the photo and look at the top right hand corner to see what the horse stumbled over causing the accident!

ferret6.jpg (19994 bytes) Kiwi Billy Bowden attributes his outlandish Umpiring signals on the inspiration given to him by the outstretched wings of the Hawk on his own Baggy Brown!

bossdiva.jpg (37697 bytes) Glenn Boss salutes the crowd after winning the Cox Plate on Makybe Diva with his specially built skull cap!

black_power.jpg (24585 bytes) Tommie Smith, John Carlos and Australian Peter Norman who was credited with brilliant idea of Baggy Brown Salute.  History has lost it's way and some 'historians' claim it was a black glove salute but we have been able to source an original photo from the 1960 Mexico Olympic Games.

Caddy-Cinderella.jpg (26156 bytes) In the movie Caddyshack, Groundsman Carl Spackler wore this Baggy Brown before the producers insisted he wear a floppy hat so people wouldn't become so enamored with the Baggy Brown and not concentrate on the movie!

B2.jpg (10326 bytes) Sean Connery as James Bond in the classic Bond film, Baggy Brown Finger!

TG-GooseThumbs.jpg (26896 bytes) The Goose don't need no crash helmet, He's protected by the Baggy Brown in this scene from Top Gun that ended up on the cutting room floor!

DavidH8.jpg (53970 bytes) The Hoff did this spread in a real tease to his adoring female fans.

Everyone remembers the famous Simpson's episode 'Homers Hat Trick' (No larger pic for this one....)

KISS_102605_2.jpg (110391 bytes) Turtle presented Peter Criss with his own Baggy Brown and the Kiss legend did the rest!

monkey.JPG (16179 bytes) Mick Brennan got his nickname 'Monkey' when he co produced the long running show.  Here was Mick's idea to make the show a little more Aussie fan friendly!

lonard_mci_win.jpg (27424 bytes) Aussie Champion Golfer Peter Lonard wore the Baggy Brown in all 4 rounds of his maiden win at Hilton head on the USPGA Tour.  An emotional Lonard said in a post tournament interview "I owe it all to the Baggy Brown, every time I felt the pressure, I just thought of the BB and I was able to rise to the occasion!"

mandella.jpg (76169 bytes) Nelson Mandela is one of many world leaders who have been presented with their own Baggy Brown by our sport loving Prime Minister John Howard.

osama.jpg (17126 bytes) Not all Baggy Browns are used for good.  Here's a picture of ex 4th XI leg spinner Ben Larden.  Ben played at the Hawks for a year or so but was asked not to return after he started re wiring everyone's cars in the car park without permission.  No one is sure where he went........

shappelle.jpg (21511 bytes) Shappelle Corby disgraced the Baggy Brown by allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into Bali.  In this photo you can clearly see her captors leading her away, one holding her right arm and a Baggy Brown while the guard on her left has a bag of something suspicious in his hand.  Later, the Australian Embassy in Indonesia were able to change the details from a Baggy Brown Cap to a Boogie Board Cover (note the same initials of a B-B-C) to protect the integrity of the coveted Baggy Brown.
