Round 7 One Day Game's due to washout in week 1

1st XI

I lost the toss and was asked to field.  I started off with Matty Briginshaw and Scotty Perkins to try something different.  The thinking was that they had a slow opener and if we could get through a few overs early from the spinner it would help us for later on.  It paid off, Scott took 1 for 33 from ten straight overs with two maidens.  His wicket was important too as it was the second leading run scorer in A1.  Matty's opening spell was six overs for 18 and he then came back at the death and finished with 1 for 36 off 10 overs.  Perko bowled first change and bowled ten straight out with the figures of 1 for 42 off ten overs.  He went for 13 off his third over and 12 off his last so the other eight were pretty good.  Johnno took 1 for 23 off five and had two catches dropped off his bowling.  Jamie bowled five overs at the end and took 2 for 31 off five overs.</! In reply we lost a wicket early with Junior going for 6.  Jamie and I then put on 30 before we both went in quick succession and we were in a bit of trouble at 3 for 44 in the 14th over.  Scott Perkins joined Scott Zac at the crease and together they put on 119 for the 4th wicket in a great partnership.  Scotty Zac hit the ball all over the park and drove particularly well over mid off and cover.  He picked the right ball and played a good aggressive but sensible knock.  Scott Perkinsup the other end caressed the ball beautifully and never looked in trouble.  Scott Zac was out just before the end for 70 and Scott Perkins made 42 not out.  It was a pitty Scott Zac fell when he did as he deserved to be there at the end.  Luke finished 9 not out with a couple of nice fours.

Was a great win by the boys and one we had to have.  A couple of sides above us lost and the win should also see us jump above the team we beat.  We've still got a bit of work to do after Xmas but this win hopefully gets us back on track.

2nd XI

HAWKS 121 DEAKIN 118
Again I lost the toss and we were sent in. Only Camo and Marlo showed anything with the bat a we were dismissed for a dissappointing 121.
BEST SCORES
Cameron "Angry" Hocart   36
Marlon "Ratman" Ratnayake 30 n.o
I asked the boys for total commitment in the field and thats what i got. Outstanding ground fielding and catching saw us in with a chance and when Badcock came in to bowl the last over we needed 1 wicket, them 5 runs. Badcock bowled a perfect over dismissing them for 118, a game at no point did they think they would lose. Man love all round for the victors, a game all 11 players should be proud of. Great catches by Snail (think A.B vs New Zealand), Turtle (think fatty Vautin and "that catch") and Disco (think Glenn McGrath in the outfield) were highlights. We showed in this game that these 11 players will have a dip in any situation.
BEST BOWLING
Michael "Romeo" Brennan  5 overs 3/17
Dean "Whispers" Holden    10 overs 2/17
Chris "Iceman" Badcock    9.5 overs 2/29
