Round 1

1st XI

Glen Waverley Hawks 128 (Luke Galle 57, Scott Perkins 30)
Waverley 3/130 (Matty B 1/33, Pat Eldridge 1/12, C.Perkins 1/20)

I won the toss and elected to bat with a game plan to make at least 200 runs from our 40 overs. Opened the innings with Grant Haye and Luke Galle. We lost Haysie in the the second over without scoring so I joined luke and we put on 82 for the second wicket. From there we lost regular wickets and never built any substantial partnerships collapsing to be all out for 128 in the 38th. over. Luke went on to make 57 and batted really well, he hit the ball hard & straight and was particularly severe on anything short and loose. Great innings by Luke especially when you consider he isn't an experienced opener. Disappointing batting display when we were in a really good position at 1/84 in the 18th. over to be all out for 128 and not batting out the full 40 overs.

Our bowlers were always going to have a tough time of it defending 128. I opened the bowling with Matty B and Luke to find us some early wickets. Matty B took our first wicket at 30 which gave us some hope and at drinks we had them 3/71 and still in the game. Unfortunately we couldn't take another wicket after drinks as Waverley batted well and with little scoreboard pressure they passed our total in the 34th. over. I was happy with the bowling effort and the fielding was generally of a good standard. We need some more runs next week when we take on Doncaster.

2nd XI ROUND 1 VS MELBOURNE SUPER KINGS

The season kicked off for us at Lum Reserve against an unknown opposition called the Melbourne Super Kings.
Side consisted of 3 new faces in the team Adrian Grylls, Jaime Agaliotis and Ben Wheeler who played his first senior game for the Club. Also a milestone for Dean "Snail" Perkins who played his 200th Congratulations !

I lost the toss and we were sent into bat. We started off a bit sluggish loosing our first wicket at 1/9 and not many more partnerships after that loosing a wicket every 10 - 20 runs. We completed our innings in the last over of the day being bowled out for 116. Best with the bat was Raj Gopiraj who came in and went from ball one making an important 41 and Cam Hocart who made 19 but hung around so we could see that last over.

Batting

Raj " Choccy Bear" Gopiraj      41
Cam Hocart                      19

The ground was very lush and slow so 150 would have been a great score to defend. We did have a strong bowling line up which didn't disappoint.
First ball of the innings from Dean "Disco" Holden made the stumps cartwheel and also the first ball of David "Miami" Johnson's first over found snail at gully. After the first 3 overs we had them on the ropes at 5 for 6 with 2 wickets each to Disco and Miami and a brilliant run out from disco off his own bowling.

One partnership started to get together and a fair few wides helped the cause. At one stage they managed to get to around 6 for 90 before Trent "Boxman" Bockman found his line and rhythm and got the break through which was followed by Disco coming back on and snaffling another LBW. A few overs later Bockers managed to take another wicket and was on fire finishing the game with a caught and bowl and rolling the Super Kings for 98.

Bowling:

Dean "Dr Seuss" Holden 4/32
Trent "Boxman" Bockman 3/17
David " The Bull " Johnson 2/23

Super effort from all the boys and a very enjoyable first game as Captain.

Round 1 v’s East BoxHill. We won the toss and I decided to bat first. We travelled a bit slow early and got behind the eight ball. Then tried some late hitting to get the score up to 130 of our 40 overs. Best of the bats were Senior with 45 and coolly with 18 while pralabh got 14. after that there was not a lot. East BoxHill scored the runs quite easily of 32 overs. Funky bowled very well with out luck for 0/17 of 10 overs. All in all a bad start and hopefully not the start of a premiership hang over.

Cheers powelly
