Glen Waverley Hawks 7/172 (B.Coster 44*, R.Gopiraj 32, B.Calder 32, N.Bungey
26)
Doncaster 9/168 (C.Perkins 2/38, M.Briginshaw 1/19, L.Galle 1/25)
I won the toss and elected to bat opening up with Raj and Luke.
Unfortunately Luke was run out for a duck and we weren't off to a great
start. Brooke came to the crease and with Raj put on 45 for the second
wicket. Raj was out for 32 having played some really good drives and hitting
the ball with power. Brooke also played well and made 32 in good time. When
Brad Coster came to the wicket the game was in the balance at 4/78. Brad
soon settled in and played nice and straight taking few risks whilst scoring
well down the ground. He played some great drives and was accumulating runs
off the good balls. Nathan Bungey also batted well and with Brad put on 45
for the 7th. wicket. Nathan was out late in the innings for 26 going for
quick runs whilst Brad batted through the innings to make 44 not out. An
excellent innings by Brad in only his second game in the first eleven. After
our 40 overs we made 7/172 which is a reasonable total if we bowl well.
I opened the bowling with Matty and Luke and they were able to dry the runs
up whilst taking a wicket each. They bowled well together and didn't let the
batsman play any convincing shots. Matty and Luke bowled 10 overs each
straight and at drinks we were in a great position having them 2/46 from 20
overs. After the drinks break Doncaster started playing some shots as they
were well behind the run rate. We had them 5/106 after 33 overs but the game
was still to be won. Chris Perkins and Nathan Bungey were bowling well
however Doncaster had nothing to loose and at 8/143 after the 37th. over
were still looking dangerous. We needed to keep our heads and field well,
Doncaster needed 15 off the last over for an unlikely win. After a tense
last over we won by 5 runs having Doncaster 9/168 after the 40 overs.

Round 2 Vs Burwood District.
We were playing against Burwood District away. This side had come down from
A1 last year after only managing to win 1 game but looked like these guys
could be a benchmark side this year.
I won the toss and elected to bat. Sunny was back in the 2nds and opened the
batting but wasn't around there for long and we consistently lost wickets
after that and really got our selves out caught or playing across the line
and only managed to put 83 runs on the board facing 28 overs. There was a
quick cameo from Chris "Turtle" Briginshaw hitting some big balls to the
boundary. Also Chris "Rags" Ragkeb played his first game for the club and
after a while looked pretty comfortable with the bat.
Batting
Chris "Asafa" Briginshaw 22
Not having many runs on the board their openers came out swinging and after
the first 6 overs were almost half way there. Dave " Miami" Johnson managed
to snag an early wicket and a few decisions with a caught behind and LBW
didn't go our way and they chased down the runs at 1/85 off 12 overs.
Bowling
Dave "Miami" Johnson 1/26
We need to put that game behind us and concentrate on the 80 over games
coming up and really work hard during the week to make sure our batting is
up to scratch so we can get some important partnerships together and get
runs on the board for our bowlers.

Round 2 v’s
templestowe,
I lost the
toss and they batted first. We were pretty much on top all innings and had
them all out in the last over for 122. we fielded exceptionally well holding
all our catches and getting 3 run outs. Stevo bowled fantastic to snare 4/22
of10. Mick Armstrong picked up where he left of last year with 2/38 of his
10 and new boy Tim Ponnusamy got 1/18 of his 10. In reply we were cruising
at 2/76 before a collapse saw us 6/85 and in a bit of trouble. We steadied
the ship and passed them 7 down in the second last over Pralabh relished his
promotion to number 3 and got a great 49. the other new guy Adithya Bala was
looking good on 12 before he got run out. Shanti saw us home with a fine 24
not out. A good win to be 1 and 1 for the new season.
One Day Side
Playing
Heatherdale at home on the new wicket, I won the toss and elected to bowl
first. A solid batting performance saw Heatherdale finish at 6/194 off their
40 overs. The wickets were shared with Ivan Greaves having the best figures
of 1/19 off 6 overs.
In reply we
started slowly and then hit our straps to eventually pass them in the 30th
over, 3 wickets down. Grant Haye 41, Stuart Brady 50 retired, Chris Hoare
25, Greg McCormick 61 not out and Graham Cuddon 21 not out all got amongst
them.
A good start
to the new season.
Thanks and
regards, Greg
