Blackburn North 9/192 (D.Holden 4/63, C.Perkins 3/24, M.Briginshaw 2/48)
Glen Waverley Hawks 88 All out (C.George 23*, D.Holden 17)

I lost the toss and we were sent into the field for a one day game in hot conditions following last weeks wash out. Matty Briginshaw got us off to the best possible start taking a wicket in his first over. Dean "Disco" Holden at the other end was struggling with his line and bowled a number of wides. We got our 2nd. wicket at 79 when Chris Perkins was introduced into the attack and he bowled very tightly not conceeding any easy runs. After 26 overs Blackburn North were 3/101 and we needed to close down their scoring and take some wickets. Blackburn north kept the scoreboard ticking over and we dropped a number of catches which didn't help our cause. With wickets in hand they had a late dash towards the end of their 40 overs and although we took some late wickets they ended up making 9/192.

In reply we lost too many wickets and after 10 overs we were 3/29 and at drinks (20 overs)  we slumped to 7/50. After 26 overs we were all out for 88 in a disappointing batting display. Chris George with 23 not out batted really well and with Disco making 17, Quinny 12 and Brad Coster 10 the only four batsman making double figures. We need to bring a positive attitude into all games we play this season and back our team mates up at all times if we are going to be a serious finals contender this season. Players should also be looking to attend training more regularly to further improve their skills.

2nd XI Rnd 6 vs Blackburn Nth.

Once again the weather caused us to be playing a one day game. Unbelievable! 6 rounds in and yet to play a 2 day game. Six changes again this week and with a late change in the ones and mix up in communication with the prez and former prez the calls were going out to everyone to try and fill the eleventh spot in the team. As it turned out young Mitch Mahoney was on hand and saved us from being one player down. Not sure but Mitch might be the youngest senior debutant at the club still only 12 years old. On to the game. I won the toss and elected to bat on a very humid sticky day. Actually good conditions to bowl in with the ball swinging all over the place. At 4 for 24 in the 13th over I was starting to regret the decision to bat. Enter Powelly and myself, two old blokes who have been playing cricket together since Larpent days over 30 years ago. A mini fight back saw our total move onto 95 before I was out for 31. Leaving Powelly at the crease and in great form. Some good hitting took our total to 7 for 143 after 40 overs with Powelly not out on 66. Probably would have been a ton had it not been for the slow conditions of the ground.
A run out early on to Tejas and Gryllsy started our defence off well. Some good tight bowling from Lizard ( 1/10 off 7) and a brilliant display of swing bowling from funky (4 /17 off 10) saw us get on top of the Blacky Nth batsman. Ivan chipped in with 3 wickets (3/11 off 5 ) and Dilshan 1 to see us clean up the opposition for a meagre 64 runs.  A good win which will keep us up near the top of the ladder.
Oh yeh I didn't want to say this as well but Powelly did take a one handed blinder in slips to seal up his man of the match honours.
Cheers

3rd XI Match Report

Round 6 vs. Blackburn

On a hot day I won the toss (unlike previous 3rds captains this season!) and had no hesitation in batting. Myself and Junior Sarve (making a cameo appearance) opened up and things were slow going early on with Blackburn bowling a tight line and length. I fell with the score on 30 and Senior joined his son at the crease. They both proceeded to compile a 109 run partnership getting on top of the bowling with some sensible batting. Junior was never really troubled and fell for a flawless 71 trying to move the total on. Some good late hitting from under 16 player Sach saw us reach 175 after our 40 overs. Senior remained not out making a fantastic 61 not out.

I was pretty happy with 175 as the ground was quite slow due to a heavy cover of sand. Prash and Shivo opened the bowling and got us off to a good start which saw Blackburn in early trouble at 2/25. Our next wicket came at 56 with under 16 captain Mark Bolitho taking a key wicket. From there a partnership of 51 was put on and our bowlers began to struggle in the heat. I brought on Junior and Robbie after drinks and the momentum swung back our way. Junior removed their highest scorer at a key time and Robbie took 2 important wickets from the other end. The game went down to the wire in the last few overs but we managed to hang on and win by 5 runs. Junior (4/31 off 9) and Robbie (2/31 off 9) the pick of the bowlers.  We are now 4 wins and 1 loss and well entrenched in the 4.

One Day Side

Playing second top side Vermont at home we lost the toss and were sent in to bat.

After a solid start we accelerated early, consolidated through the middle overs and then finished quite strongly to end up 6/229 after 40 overs.

Greg Brown 20, Greg McCormick 41, Stuart Wynd 50 retired, and Dave Huntington 57 retired were the best of the batsmen.

In reply Vermont were kept in check early but got away a bit in the middle overs to eventually pass us 4 wickets down in the 38th over.

Stuart Wynd 2/37 off 8 overs and Mick Stevenson 1/23 off 7 overs were the wicket takers.

Thanks, Slugger
