1st. X1 Match Report
Glen Waverley Hawks 7/251 (L.Galle 73*, B.Coster 66, S.Perkins 42, T.Bockman 30)
Nunawading 203 all out (M.Briginshaw 2/37, L.Galle 2/43, P.Eldridge 2/17)
I won the toss and elected to bat so opened with Brad Coster and Trent Bockman.
They went along nicely building a good partnership and picking up one's and
two's on the slow outfield. We lost Bockers on 30 with the score 1/63 in the
32nd. over. so it was a slow and steady start. I came in and with Brad put on 71
for the 2nd. wicket when brad was dismissed for a well made 66. He has found his
spot opening the innings and is playing really well with a nice straight bat. We
lost Mahn's quickly and when I went for 42 and snail for 3 we were in a spot of
bother at 5/156 with only 15 overs remaining. Luke Galle and Nathan Bungey then
had a telling partnership of 45 in 10 overs until Bungey went for 13 to be 6/201
after 75 overs. The last 5 overs Luke started to hit the boundaries and we
produced a competitive score of 7/251. The last over of the day Luke took 18
from it and ended 73* with Matty B in his 200th. game making 5*. A very good
batting display set up by the openers which makes it a lot easier for the middle
order to get amongst the runs.
Bowling the next week I opened with Matty B and Luke Galle who beat the bat
regularly but couldn't find the edge. We had our first wicket at 26 when Bungey
replaced Matty and had their opener clean bowled. From this point Nunawading got
on top of our bowling and they put on an even 100 for the 2nd wicket. Once we
got Nunawading's Captain and the leading run scorer in Wilson Shield (Stewart)
we soon were putting our trademark bowling pressure on the opposing batsmen. At
one stage they were 2/166 but we fought back hard to have Nunawading all out for
203. A great bowling effort and we need to keep winning to make the finals.
Another great win and well deserved by all the players. A special
congratulations to Matty Briginshaw who played his 200th. game. He made 5* and
took 2/37 in a good performance. He currently has over 1,500 runs for the club
with one memorable century against Doncaster and 349 wickets including one
hat-trick. He has been a reliable strike bowler for many years and there is more
good cricket to come. Well done Matty B.

Round 9 VS Nunawading 2nds
We were playing away this week against Nunawading who were sitting about 6th and
needed to keep winning to keep their season alive.
I won the toss and decided to have a bat with our top 3 batsmen unavailable this
week I threw the challenge to Scotty Zach and Cammo who started off really well
seeing the first 10 overs or so before cammo fell. Scotty was still plugging
away taking his time and really trying to get his eye in and set up him self up
for a big day.
Monkey came and went and we were 2 for 45.
Scotty Mills came in who looked like he had never stopped playing blocking right
off the middle and looking very comfortable. The Scott's managed to put on a
nice partnership of 48 and we were sitting at 2 for 92 about 5 overs out from
tea. Scotty made a very important 51 but then got carried away and went for the
big one. After this we kept tumbling and lost 4 wickets for 13 runs in those 5
overs before tea. After tea not much changed and we were all out in the 52nd
over for 123.
BATTING
Scott " Gilchrist" Zachariassen 51
Scott " Painted on Whites" Mills 22
At the end of our batting innings we had 25 overs to bowl which we would bowl
nice and tight and keep it pretty uneventful except for a couple of important
wickets taken by Disco Holden and we had them 2 for 38 overnight needing 8
wickets for just 85 runs.
Disco and Johno came out firing and the screws were tightened early with plenty
of edges not carrying off a dead pitch. But Disco managed to snag another one
and then just kept going. Fall of wickets as follows, 3 for 46, 57, 58, 66, 78,
89 (including Ano who made 5) with Disco taking all the 8 wickets thus far and
bowling 24 overs on the trot.
Right on top with only 2 wickets required with about 30 runs needed we bought on
Badcock from Disco's end after he had bowled till he was completely stuffed.
Badone managed to hit the spots and bowl their number 10 and we needed one for a
great victory. Johno was bowling tight from the opposite end and putting the
pressure on the batsmen who were now starting to play a few wild shots. But a
turned ball on the leg side and great pick up and throw from our young debutant
Zaron would see their number 11 run out and Nunawading to loose by 17 runs.
Dean " Octo " Holden 24 overs 8 for 41
Chris " Bad to the Bone" Badcock 9 overs 1 for 17
David " Beamer" Johnson 22 overs 0 for 35
Fantastic effort by all the boys and it was great to see Disco take his best
figures ever. It is only our 3rd win for the year but it is a marvellous thing
to watch all the boys busting their asses for me as captain, for the team and
for the club even though the ladder is irrelevant.
Next week we play Kerrimuir away who are sitting about 10th so hopefully we can
go back to back and get our 4th win on the board then make it 5 to finish off.
To all potential 2nds lads lets keep training and doing the simple things well
so we can have another win cause I know everyone enjoyed that feeling on the
weekend.
Cheers Monkey

One Day Side
Round 13 –
30/1/10
Playing
second placed Waverley at home, we lost the toss and they elected to bat. We
bowled and fielded well in the first 20 overs, but not so well in the last
20 overs, which saw Waverley finish at 4/250 after their 40 overs. Mick
Stevenson was superb with the ball taking 1/19 off 8 overs.
In reply we
got away to a good start, and were then able to maintain a strong run chase
with a number of important contributions. Stuey Wynd 51 retired, Dunge
Newman 47, Tushar Pai 33, Anthony Papa 38 (playing hurt!), and Mick
Stevenson 44 not out, steered us home 7 wickets down with 7 balls to spare.
A great win
which will see us now back in 4th spot, behind 2nd
only on percentage. An important game against the top side next week.
Thanks and
regards, Slugger
