Twenty questions with Tommy Waters

What’s your full name and what are you currently up to (this is your only chance to shamelessly plug yourself)

Tom Waters. Trying to keep fit but generally not succeeding as I did in my early 20’s. Otherwise working and a young family take up the balance of the time.

2. You came out of the Highvale High School Sporting Academy, how much do you attribute that to your success at Glen Waverley Hawks and the man you became over the years?

Watching the stars of the years ahead of me gave some pointers of what to and what not to do. Within my year at school there was enough success to show that even with raw talent you had to work hard to succeed.

3. In these days of Internet Porn and Sony Playstations, do you think it's a lot harder for young cricketers to make it in the 'Big Time' who do not come out of such an Academy?

If you add to that the kids who are put off sport by the parents trying to relive their childhoods (or make some serious cash eg the Hewitt clan) I guess it does make it harder.

4. As the son of umpire Bobby Waters (a man who claims to have never made a bad decision) what is the best piece of cricket advice Bob ever gave you and what was the silliest?

Best – Stay relaxed and concentrate

Silliest – Telling me I don’t leave balls that were too wide. Not good advice when you are in the back yard and too wide meant leaving the ball go through to break a window.

An actor who was out of work and hard on his luck.
